Concentration Propsal 3-30-11
Emma’s Concentration Art Proposal
3-30-11
My art is very nature oriented, so while brainstorming, I knew I wanted to do something with animals and the wilderness. Specifically, I love Native American culture and although my concentration idea is basically all planned out, I was hoping that while creating it, I would figure out a way to incorporate more of that unique culture into the piece.
The concentration I have decided on will be at least three drawn detailed cutouts. Each cutout will be on light colored paper and in the shape of a square. The cutouts will be of animals and so far, I have decided on a wolf, a rabbit, and deer. If I have time for a fourth cutout, it will be of a bear. Each animal will be drawn on one side. The drawings will be very detailed. Each scene will have the animal in the center and trees and leaves surrounding it, making it look like it is in its habitat. Specifically for the rabbit, the cut out will give the appearance that it is in a hole so the cut out section will be in a circular shape with roots coming out of it. The deer and the wolf’s surrounding cutout will be closely the same. Under each animal cutout there will be some sort of cutout oval shape and I have not decided yet on if there will be the Native American name for the animal in it or not. It all depends on how fine the knife that I’m working with is.
While talking to Mr. Granger about my ideas, it became apparent to me that not only was the final piece important, but the way I presented it was important too. This was a significant point because I was struggling on how to incorporate drawing into my concentration. I have decided that the cutouts will all be hanging. This is so that the viewer can get both effects the cutout will have; the detailed of the drawn on side as well as the contrast the plain side of the cutout demonstrates. Although I have not completely figured out exactly what the cutouts will be hanging on, the background will be the night sky with stars. This was to hopefully symbolize the constellations, bringing some more of the Native American aspect into the piece.
